Here are the GPX files of our hike around Dance Hall Rock

Our visits: So far 2 visits in October 2018 and June 2023

Dance Hall Rock

Description: If you drive the Hole in the Rock Road for 36.2mi, the Dance Hall Rock lies directly on the left side. The huge sandstone, shaped like an alcove, overlooks the plateau on which it stands about 98ft and is thus easily visible from afar. It served the settlers of the San Juan Expedition for all kinds of recreational activities. Because of its acoustics, it was used as a stage, especially for line dancing events.

Trail length: 1.1mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: 82ft
Time needed: 1 hour
Difficulty level: easy

Our rating: For us, in October 2018, after the hike to the Broken Arch, this location was a very nice way to end the day. During sunset, the huge rock is amazingly highlighted. Those who have driven so far down the Hole in the Rock Road should definitely make a short stop here.
