Elements/Ratio Sculptures

Description: The two sculptures Ratio and Elements were commissioned by an 88-year-old landowner from Green River who wanted to leave something lasting here. The Australian artist Andrew Rogers was hired to create the two sculptures. He first created the 44feet-high sculpture called The Ratio, based on the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical concept of universal significance that resembles the golden ratio of science and mathematics. One block was covered with 23-karat gold to reflect the sun's rays for miles in all directions. The sculpture also contains two more black stones that symbolize the dangers of genetic engineering. The second sculpture is called Elements and consists of four 33feet high columns representing the basic elements of earth, fire, water and wind. One of the columns is also covered with 23-carat gold.

The sculptures are reached via a small dirt road which was in good condition during our visit in April 2022. You could drive directly to the end of the road. Since they are located on a small hill, you can also see the artworks from Interstate 70 as you drive by.

Our rating: Since we like such small locations very much and are also interested in art, it was obvious that we would make a small stop at these sculptures. It's a bit of a pity that the artworks are not really nicely presented. They are located on a completely bare sand hill right next to the interstate. Nevertheless, we had fun taking a look at the two sculptures.
