Redstone Coke Oven Historic District

Redstone

Description: The coke ovens were built in the late 19th century by the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. At one time there were over 200 built here because of the high coal deposits in the surrounding mountains. At their peak, they produced up to 6 million tons of coke per year.

The kilns are located just off Highway 113 in Redstone.

Our rating: Not an absolute highlight but a nice stop to stretch your legs. In autumn and when the weather is nice, the ovens offer a nice photo motif.
