Pfeiffer Beach

Description: Pfeiffer Beach is a beach along Highway 1. The main attraction is an arch in the water, which is illuminated by the setting sun in winter and provides beautiful photo opportunities. Another special feature is the pink sand, which gets its color from various minerals.

The beach is not quite easy to find, as there are no signs on Highway 1 pointing to it. The entrance is somewhat hidden and is located, coming from the south, a few hundred yards after the Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge on the left side. The road descends steeply. It is 2 miles long, very narrow and in poor condition. Once you reach the beach, you will find the ticket booth and parking lot.

This parking lot is relatively small and quickly filled. Should it be full, you will be stopped shortly after the junction from Highway 1 and have to wait there until someone drives off from below.

Our rating: We liked the beach quite a bit. Unfortunately, the sun does not set in September so that it shines through the Arch. Who wants to have this photo should visit in winter.

Since there are many beaches that are free of charge, everyone must decide for themselves whether it is worth the $10 or the possible waiting time.
