Virginia City

Description: Virginia City is one of the oldest settlements in Nevada. The town is located at an altitude of 6198ft, on the slopes of the 7867ft high Mount Davidson. The city had its peak during the gold rush in the middle of the 19th century. At that time more than 30000 people lived here. Just as quickly as the population had risen, it also sank again after the ore discoveries became less. Since 1961, practically the entire town has been protected as a historical monument. Thus it was protected and preserved from decay. Today, about 800 inhabitants live here.

The pretty, beautifully preserved houses, the many restaurants, stores and events attract over 2 million visitors a year.

Our rating: If you like old western towns, you will certainly like it here. There is practically everything you would expect from such a place. We had fun strolling along and looking in the shop windows. The beautiful, well-preserved old houses also offer beautiful photo opportunities.
