Valley of the Gods

Description: Valley of the Gods is a few miles north of its big brother, Monument Valley. There are two entrances to the Valley, one from the east via Highway 163 and one from the west via Highway 261. There is a dirt road through the Valley that was in surprisingly good condition when we visited in October 2018. We didn't expect to be able to drive through at all, as it had rained on and off for a couple of days prior. There were a few water-filled washes, but nothing that our Jeep Wrangler couldn't handle.

The whole route through the Valley is 16.5mi and passes great sandstone monoliths and rock needles in a truly monumental landscape. So it is not surprising that the Valley has often served as a setting for all sorts of movie productions.

Our rating: We especially liked the vastness and gigantic landscape here. As is so often the case, it is very difficult to convey in photos. Some things you just have to see with your own eyes. The landscape here is in any case magnificent. We did not expect it to be so amazing, otherwise we probably would have been here sooner.
