Independence Pass

Description: Independence Pass is a high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains. It connects the towns of Twin Lakes and Aspen. It crosses the Sawatch Range and is located on the North American Continental Divide.

Fall Foliage in the Rocky Mountains usually starts in late September, with a little luck you can experience the peak of colors at the beginning of October. However, nature is not really predictable and so the whole thing can shift one or two weeks forward or backward. As you can see, snow is also not unusual at the top of the pass in October.

Our rating: This is a worthwhile destination, especially in autumn, when all the aspens in the region turn yellow. Even if, compared to the East Coast, there are no colorful trees in the Rockies, the bright yellow aspens are a great sight. The abundance of these trees in the area makes them especially worth seeing.

Whether the whole thing would inspire us just as much in spring or summer, we can not judge, because the yellow spots on the hills and the bright yellow trees have quite a special charm.
