General information

There are several slot canyons here as well. The name Canyon X is given by a stone formation in one of the canyons forming an X. Also these canyons can only be visited as part of a tour. You hike in groups together with a tour guide. At the moment this is still the location where you can enjoy slot canyons without crowds. However, unfortunately, this is probably only a matter of time until this will also change here.

Antelope Canyon X

Description: We visited the canyons in October 2018. Since a few days before our visit all slot canyons were closed due to a flash flood and Canyon X was the first to reopen, they were unusually busy.

You park your car in a parking lot on Highway 98 a few miles southeast of Page.  Here you change into pickup trucks, which take you over a few dirt roads to the entrance of the canyons. Here you descend over a large sand dune into a wash. From this wash several slot canyons lead off. We viewed two of these canyons during our visit.

Our rating: We liked both canyons we visited. However, we found them by far not as interesting and worth seeing as the real Antelope Canyons. Nevertheless, we would always prefer Antelope Canyon X in a small group to the extremely crowded Upper and Lower Antelope Canyons. Right now this is a very good alternative if you want to visit a nice slot canyon in the southwest.
