Red Canyon

Around Bryce - Utah

7182 ft
Altitude above sea level: Red Canyon

Our visits: So far 1 hiking-visit in June 2023 - otherwise numerous trips through the park.

Red Canyon

Description: Red Canyon is located about 9.3mi west of Bryce Canyon NP. The park is located directly on Scenic Byway 12 and will probably be passed by most tourists on the way to the famous big brother, the Bryce Canyon NP. Since there is hardly any time left on most guided tours, there are almost no busses and crowds here. The masses are passed through here directly and gather at Bryce Canyon NP. Unlike at the neighboring park, here you are at the bottom of the canyon and can hike around on several trails to the top and between the numerous pretty hoodoos. Bryce Canyon is more explored from the rim down.

Our rating: We have also driven through the park so far and have not really taken much time for it. Sure, as an individual tourist you have the opportunity to stop and hike a few steps, but we have not really explored the park yet. While I write this and also look at the photos again, I ask myself why we have never taken more time for the park. He would have deserved it in any case. Maybe the park is not as huge as the national park next door, but the hoodoos and rock formations are in no way behind those in Bryce Canyon NP.

Tunnel Trail

Description: The Tunnel Trail leads to a viewpoint from which you can see the two sandstone road tunnels from above. From the trailhead, which is well signposted, you first walk through the wash and then immediately up the hill. After less than half a mile you reach the viewpoint. The trail is well maintained and easy to walk except for the incline.

Trail length: approx. 1.2mi roundtrip
Altitude difference: ca. xm
Time needed: 1 hour
Difficulty level: easy

Our rating: The little hike here is really great, especially because of the really great surroundings. Not only do you have a great view from the lookout point, but the entire trail offers plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the beautiful landscape. This also gives you the opportunity to rest and recover from the ascent.
