Mission San Xavier del Bac

Mission San Xavier del Bac

Description: The mission was built around 1700 by the Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino, on the land of the Tahono O`Odhan Indians. Then in 1797, the Indians built the present church. Since 1966, the mission has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Arizona. Today, it is very popular with tourists and local worshippers. During our visit, we were able to join a free guided tour of the grounds. A nice elderly gentleman had many interesting stories to tell about the mission.

Our rating: The mission was quite a nice side trip. It was interesting to learn about the history and mission activities in southern Arizona. The nice and informative tour added to a nice experience.
