Sand Mountain RA

Description: The Sand Mountain Recreation Area sand dune is 2mi long and 591ftm high. The sand originates from Lake Lahontan, which has been dried up for 900 years.

Today, the mountain is mainly used for local recreation. There is a campground where lots of RV's and ATW's were milling around when we visited in September 2019.

Our rating: The mountain is really impressive and visible from far away. Theoretically, you could also climb it, but since probably regularly ATW's drive over the mountain, that would not be a real nature experience. But for a small stop we quite liked it.
