Loveland Pass

Description: Loveland Pass is the only pass in Colorado that remains open year-round. The pass was named after William A.H. Loveland the president of the Colorado Central Railroad. It is located between the towns of Georgetown and Dillon. Since the Eisenhower Tunnel was built on the interstate, the pass is not as busy as it once was, since most cars take the interstate. However, the pass is used by trucks that are not allowed or unable to use the tunnel.

Our rating: To us, it's not the most spectacular pass to drive in Colorado, but it's definitely a nicer alternative to the interstate. If you're not in a hurry, the pass would definitely always be our first choice over the interstate. Thus also in April 2022 when we could experience the pass still completely snow-covered. Even the ski lifts were all still in operation.
