Georgetown

Georgetown

Description: Georgetown was founded in 1859 during the Colorado gold rush by George and David Griffith. Even though the mines were up in the mountains, Georgetown was able to establish itself as a business and entertainment center for the miners. When the railroad was built from Denver to Silver Plume via Georgetown in 1870, Georgetown became even more important. It was not until after the gold rush that things changed again. Nowadays Georgetown is a tourist town. The historic railroad between Georgetown and Silver Plume, for example, is still used for tourist purposes.

Our rating: A very beautifully preserved small, historic town in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. Especially in autumn, when the aspens are still glowing yellow and the sun is shining, you can easily spend a few hours here. Unfortunately, none of the historic trains were running during our visit because we were there too early in the morning. If you want to see a train, you should plan your visit according to the running times, because they don't operate very often. To see one by chance, you need a lot of luck.
