Ponoka Stampede

Description: Ponoka is a small town 100km south of Edmonton and 200km north of Calgary. It was founded in 1891, like so many towns, as a stop on the Canadian Pacific Railway. One of the most popular events in Ponoka is the annual Stampede, which has been held since 1936. This rodeo always takes place before the larger rodeo in Calgary.

Current 2022: This year the rodeo will take place from Mon 06/27 to Sun 07/03.

Our rating: The rodeo in Ponoka was the first one we visited. It's not really our cup of tea, but it was interesting to be there once. If you don't like crowds and prefer a more family atmosphere, you'll like the rodeo here more than the one in Calgary.
