Meaford

Description: Meaford is a small, pretty town on Georgian Bay. We mainly stopped here because of the “Scarecrow Invasion.” Every September, the town is decorated with scarecrows everywhere.

Our rating: Certainly not a must-see, but quite nice if you happen to be passing by anyway.

Owen Sound

Description: Of the three waterfalls in Owen Sound, Inglis Falls are the largest, reaching heights of up to 18 meters. They are formed where the Sydenham River meets the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The falls were named after Scottish immigrant Peter Inglis, who built the first grain mill at the top of the falls in 1962.

Our rating: Owen Sound is a pretty town on the southern tip of Georgian Bay. On our way from Toronto to Tobermory, it was a pleasant stopover for us to visit the Tom Thomson Art Gallery and one of the waterfalls.

Tobermory

Description: Tobermory is a small town at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula. From here, you can take a ferry to Manitoulin Island during the summer months, saving yourself the long journey around Georgian Bay. With its numerous accommodation options and restaurants, the town is also a good base for exploring the two national parks on the Bruce Peninsula.

Our rating: We really liked Tobermory. The small town is a great base for visiting the surrounding nature parks. Here we had everything we could wish for as tourists in a small vacation resort.
