Toronto Islands

Description: The Toronto Islands are located in Lake Ontario, just off the coast of the city. They consist mainly of parks and serve as a local recreation area. They were created in 1858 during a severe storm, when a tidal wave tore them away from the mainland and swept them into the lake. To get to the islands, you can either take the ferry or a water taxi. Once on the islands, there are many ways to spend the day away from the stress of the city and unwind. You can either walk around or rent a bike to explore the islands.

Preise Fähre: 9,11 CAD/person/round trip
Times: Mid-April to mid-October: trips to Centre Island, Hanlan's Point, or Ward's Island – Mid-October to mid-April: ferries only run to Ward's Island.

Our rating: We took a boat trip around the islands in 2013. The boat trip was part of our hop-on hop-off ticket. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible. Nevertheless, we can well imagine that the islands are a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a few relaxing hours. The fantastic view of the city's skyscrapers alone is worth the trip.

Polson Pier

Description: Polson Pier is an event venue in Toronto's industrial harbor. It also offers a great view of the city's skyscrapers. The pier is especially popular at sunset.

Our rating: Of course, we were mainly here for the great view of the city. Unfortunately, there were huge construction sites on all the access roads and even on the pier, as the entire area is being expanded and restored. That made it a little difficult to reach the pier. But once we made it, the view was magnificent, of course. There wasn't much else to do here, though.
