West Thumb

Description: West Thumb is a geothermal area right on the western shore of Yellowstone Lake. Here there are mainly colorful pools to admire. But there are also geysers located in the lake. In summer they are hardly visible, but in winter they melt the up to 4in thick ice layer on the lake. By the resulting holes, you can see the position of the geysers.

Our rating: Due to the special location, we like West Thumb very much. With the lake in the background, the colorful pools make great photo motifs. A side trip to West Thumb is well worth it.
