Women's Forum

Description: The Portland Woman's Forum is a group that has been active in the Columbia River Gorge since 1946. For example, the group saved this particular overlook from sale, preserving it for public use.

For the GPS: 39210 Historic Columbia River Hwy, Corbett, OR 97019

Our rating: For us it was a first stop on our trip along the Columbia River. Here you have a great view of the river and the Vista House. Definitely worth a stop. For good photo light, the afternoon would probably be better here.

Larch Mountain

Description: Larch Mountain is a mountain a few miles south of the Columbia River. It is reached via a turnoff from the Historic Columbia River Highway between Woman's Forum Viewpoint and the Vista House. However, the road is usually closed between November and late May/early June. Once at the parking lot, walk up a steep incline for about 500m to reach Sherrard Point. Here you have a breathtaking view of five of the Cascade volcanoes.

Note: The road is normally closed from Mile 10 from November through May or early June due to weather.

Our rating: Despite the good weather, the view was a bit hazy during our visit in June 2015. Nevertheless, the view here is beautiful. For us, this is a must see when in the area. It was just great up here!!!!!

Vista House

Description: At the beginning of the 19th century, when the Historic Columbia River Highway was created, the 738ft high basalt rock was chosen as a lookout point. Architect Edgar M. Lazarus designed the Vista House for it in 1916, and it has stood here at Crown Point ever since. The Vista House served as a rest house and memorial to Oregon's pioneers. In 1974, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Für unser Navi: 40700 Historic Columbia River Hwy, Corbett, OR 97019

Our rating: The Vista House and overlook are probably a must seefor any visitor driving along the Historic Columbia River Highway. Here everyone stops and takes a rest, as they have done since time immemorial. It is simply beautiful here. Absolute recommendation!!!

Waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge

Description: One of the really great features of the Columbia River Gorge are the many waterfalls. Many of them you can visit. Some are very easy to get to, for some you have to hike a bit and for some you have to hike further. So that means there is something for everyone. We looked at some of the waterfalls during our visit in June 2015.

Info and overview of the waterfalls

A small remark about this. The Multnomah Falls became world famous through the movie Twilight . Since then, the location is often fully packed. Especially on weekends it can happen that you can't get a parking space. Also during our visit the situation was really chaotic. You might want to be prepared for that if you want to come here. At the other waterfalls it was also partly full, but there was everywhere a parking space to find.

Our rating: We looked at all the waterfalls during our visit in June 2015, which were more or less on the road. You have to walk a small trail to all waterfalls. But these trails are all short and easy. We really enjoyed the visit to the waterfalls and can only recommend it, even if you only have time for one or two of the waterfalls.
