Black Sand Basin

Description: The Black Sand Basin is a geothermal group that is part of the Upper Geyers Basin. The group is small, but has some nice colorful pools. The colors are created by various microorganisms that live in the water.

The basin is reached by a planked trail a few hundred feet long. The short trail is easy to walk and as good as flat. In a good hour you should have seen everything important.

Our rating: Here it is especially a pity that you can only see the pools from the side. So you can see the bright colors, but a view from above would probably be more impressive. It is certainly not a must see, but if you already know the other, more spectacular pools, you can easily stop by here.
