EarthQUAKE Lake

Description: On August 17, 1959, a major earthquake occurred at this site, resulting in a massive landslide. This landslide blocked the outlet of the Madison River, which subsequently dammed up behind the debris. Earthquake Lake was formed. To allow the water of the Madison River to drain properly again, a drainage channel was subsequently dug. Today the lake is up to 125ft deep and 6mi long.

Our rating: We always find such places to be quite interesting. Here you can see what kind of natural forces could develop and how landscapes are changed by them. So if you're in the area, you should definitely stop by here. We liked it.
