Winthrop

Description: The first settlers came here when gold was found in the area at the end of the 17th century. The town developed and subsequently also made a living from sawmills and cattle ranching. When the highway to the western North Cascade NP was built through here in 1972, town officials decided to renovate Winthrop's homes in the style of a Western town. Today, it is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world and offers many recreational opportunities even in winter.

Our rating: The small town is a nice stopover on the way to or from North Cascade NP. With a delicious coffee you can enjoy the atmosphere of the beautifully renovated town. The place is always worth a stop.
