Ford & Edison Winter Home

Description: In 1885, Thomas Edison bought the property and used it as a vacation home. His good friend Henry Ford then bought the property next door. After Edison's death, his widow donated the house to the city of Fort Myers. In 1947, it was opened to the public. Since 1990, Henry Ford's home has also been open to the public. Around the same time, management of the site was taken over by a non-profit organization. Besides the houses, you can also visit the gardens, Thomas Edison's laboratory and a museum.

Our rating: We enjoyed the visit to the two houses very much. It was interesting to learn more about two men who have already changed all our lives with their inventions. We also really liked the entire grounds. Everything was very well maintained and beautifully landscaped. We also enjoyed our second visit in November 2022. After 25 years, you do forget quite a few things.
