St. Pete Pier

Description: The St. Petersburg Pier, is an entertainment pier that extends from downtown St. Petersburg into Tampa Bay. Over the years, a wide variety of structures have stood at this site. The structure that stood here on our last visit in 1997 was a five-story building in the shape of an inverted pyramid. The Inverted Pyramid Pier closed in 2013. The new 26-acre Pier District opened on July 6, 2020. The $92 million project includes five restaurants, an environmental education center and numerous works of art,

Our rating: As 25 years before, we enjoyed our visit to St.Pete Pier. The whole facility is very spacious and interestingly designed. In the Tiki Bar on the 5th floor, at the end of the pier, we could admire the great view of downtown St. Petersburg with a cool drink.

Dali Museum

Description: The Dali Museum in St.Petersburg is home to the largest collection of the artist outside Europe. In total, the collection includes 2140 works collected mainly by the industrialist couple Morse from Cleveland. After several other locations, the current museum opened its doors in January 2011. In addition to the actual exhibition, you'll also find a theater showing a movie about the artist, a coffee shop and a huge gift store. The building itself is also special and worth an extra look.

Our rating: After 1997, we visited the museum for the second time in November 2022. Compared to the old location, the experience has improved quite a bit. Not only is the exhibition much larger, the artworks are also presented in a very appealing and interesting way. We especially loved the ability to walk around the paintings with virtual reality goggles. This allowed us to experience the paintings in a completely different, special way. We also really liked the special architecture of the building.

Chihuly Collection

Description: The Chihuly Collection is a permanent collection of the work of artist Dale Chihuly. The glass artworks are designed to interact with the architecture of the building. This creates a visitor experience unlike any other exhibition of Chihuly's art. The collection is marked at the entrance by an iconic 20-foot sculpture created specifically for this location. Each space has been individually designed to showcase each installation to its best advantage.
