Old Sheldon Church

Description: Old Sheldon Church or Prince William's Parish Church was built from 1751-1757. In 1779, the church was set on fire by the British Army and partially burned down. It was rebuilt between 1825 and 1826, but burned again in 1865 during the American Civil War. However, a more recent theory is that the second fire never occurred, but that it was stripped to rebuild surrounding houses. Today, the ruins serve more of a tourist purpose and as a setting for marriages and other events.

Our rating: We liked it here very much. The ruins are picturesquely located in a great forest and it was really fun to go in search of beautiful photo opportunities. We can definitely recommend a visit here.

Attention!!! The forest is located right next to a swamp area and during our visit many annoying mosquitoes were active. That's why we recommend to spray yourself well with mosquito spray.
