Southfork Ranch

Description: Who doesn't know Southfork Ranch? Back in the '80s, when there weren't 600 TV channels to choose from, just about everyone hung out in front of the TV on Tuesday nights to watch Dallas. For years, the Ewings' fortunes dominated the television screen. The series was filmed here in northeast Dallas at Southfork Ranch. Although, that's not quite true, because in reality, only the exterior shots were filmed here. Everything that happened inside was produced in real movie studios in California. Since Dallas was so successful, at some point more and more fans began to make pilgrimages here, and so the family that actually lived here was forced to change their place of residence. A private life was no longer possible for them in this place. They sold the ranch and since then it belongs completely to tourism.

Our rating: As a big Dallas fan, I would have loved to come here on our first trip to the USA in 1992. Unfortunately, Texas was a bit far off our route and so it took another 26 years until I could actually visit this place. Not much has changed since then. There are tours where you can see the house and the ranch.

How did we like it? Hmm, it was OK. Seeing the house and ranch was cool. However, I was a little disappointed with the tour inside the house. After all, the series wasn't filmed here inside the house, so I didn't really need the house tour. Basically, nothing in the house has anything to do with the series. The conclusion: Now I was here once and that's enough now.
