Green Animals Topiary Gardens

Description: The Green Animals Topiary Garden is one of the oldest sculpture gardens in the USA. Here you will find over 80 trees out of which all kinds of shapes have been cut. There are bears, elephants and all sorts of other shapes. The property was purchased in 1939 by E. Bariton. He wanted a summer residence on the Rhode Island coast. After his death, his daughter Alice took over the estate. She belonged to the good society of Newport and subsequently hosted many parties and receptions here. Among others, the Kennedys were guests at one of these occasions.

The house also belongs to the Newport Manisons Preservation Society, which manages this property in addition to the historic houses in Newport. On the official homepage you can find everything you need to know about a visit. The opening hours vary. The entrance fees depend on how many of the houses you want to see. 1 house costs 18$/person, 2 houses cost 32$/person, 5 houses cost 38$/person.

Our rating: We visited the gardens and Bayton House in October 2013. The whole place looked very well kept and it was fun to walk along all the sculptures and flowers. Anyone who is passionate about plants and beautiful gardens will certainly enjoy it here.
