Museums

Uptown Manhattan - New York City

New York City is home to some of the world's most famous and important museums. However, because there is so much to see in the city, there is usually not as much time for the museums as they deserve. You could spend days in each of them.

MOMA - Museum of Modern Art

Description: The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art is one of the most important and famous art museums in the world. It is home to modern and contemporary art of all kinds. You can find world famous paintings as well as artworks from the fields of design, movies, sculpture, architecture and much more.

The museum was opened in 1939 and has been expanded and rebuilt several times until today. It is one of the most visited museums in the world with almost 3 million visitors annually. On Friday between 4 and 8 pm the entrance is free. That's why the museum is also open until 9pm on Friday. However, on Friday afternoon you should expect long waiting times and a very crowded museum.

Our rating: For me as an artist, this museum was already a must see during our first visit to New York in 2011. But even if you are not necessarily an art expert, this museum is just great. There are world-famous objects to see and so we can only recommend a visit to everyone.

Tipp: The museum is always very well attended. So if you don't want to stand in line for hours and want to enjoy the museum in some peace, you should be at the entrance before 9 am. The further the day progresses, the more crowded it gets. Those who do not necessarily want to save the entrance fee should definitely avoid Friday afternoon.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Description: The Guggenheim Museum is located on 5th Avenue right next to Central Park. The striking building was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and opened in 1959. It is a museum that mainly houses modern abstract art. Several world-renowned works of art can be found here as well.

Our rating: Not only because of the unusual architecture, this museum is also great and worth seeing. For anyone interested in abstract art, this is a must see. There are great works of art to see. Seeing world-famous art in the original is simply indescribably inspiring.
