Kinzua Dam

Description: Kinzua Dam, built in 1965, is one of the largest dams east of the Mississippi River. It dams the Allegheny River to form the Allegheny Reservoir. The construction of the dam was very controversial because the entire Seneca tribe had to be relocated due to the dammed lake. However, members of the tribe have since resettled on the newly created Allegheny Reservation, at the north end of the lake.

Our rating: Dams are always fascinating structures for us. That's why we always make a short stop when one is on our way. We would not have driven a detour for it, but if you pass it anyway, a short stop is well worth while. Especially in autumn there are also quite nice spots to take photos with the colorful trees.
