Tour - Downtown Manhattan

Downtown Manhattan - New York City

Washington Square Park

Description: Washington Square Park is located between Greenwich Village and East Village and is one of the most famous of all public parks in New York City. There are concerts held here on a regular basis. Since it is also right next to NYU, it is also a popular meeting place for students from all over the world.

Our rating: Actually, we have so far only passed Washington Square Park. But the Arch and the Grand Fountain offer a nice spot for photos and so we definitely want to spend some more time here.

Bootsfahrt rund um Downtown Manhattan

Description: The boat ride from Brookfield Place to Southstreet Seaport is part of the Grey Line's hop on hop off service. It takes you once around the tip of Manhattan and gives you a great view of the skyscrapers, the States of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Our rating: We probably wouldn't have done this trip if it hadn't been included in our bus ticket. But we would have really missed something, because it was really great to see the huge skyscrapers from the water with a little distance. We can definitely recommend the trip.

Southstreet Seaport

Description: South Street Seaport is a small historic neighborhood below the Brooklyn Bridge. Besides Pier 17, where a few historic sailing ships are moored, you can also find a few houses from the early 19th century. Today you can find numerous stores and restaurants at the pier as well as in the historic houses. Also the Hop-on Hop-off buses make a stop here.

Our rating: A nice little location. We passed by on our way to the Brooklyn Bridge. In the alleys between the historic houses you almost forget that you are in a big city. Not an absolute must see, but quite nice.

Manhattan Bridge

Description: The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge over the East River. It is about 1.24mi long, has a span of 1470ft and two levels for trains, cars and pedestrians. It offers a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Downtown Manhattan.

Our rating: So far we have only ever taken the double decker hop on hop off buses across the Manhattan Bridge. Nevertheless, it's a great experience to drive over the bridge in an open bus and enjoy the view. Walking across the bridge is definitely still on our bucket list.
