Ricketts Glen SP

Description: Besides the area around Lake Jean, Ricketts Glen SP protects 24 waterfalls along Kitchen Creek. Because of these waterfalls, a hotel was located in the area of the park from 1873-1903. This was owned by R.Bruce Ricketts, after whom the park was later named. It was he who established the 7.2mi Falls Trail, a hiking trail that takes you past many of the waterfalls. After his death, his heirs gradually sold land to the state of Pennsylvania. Efforts to establish the area as a national park failed because of the cost. So finally, in 1944, the state park was established. The park offers plenty of opportunities to spend your free time.

Our rating: We visited the park in October 2013 and did a short hike to Adams Falls. Unfortunately, there was not much time left for more, but the little hike was really nice and really made us want more. At the end of October it was also already a little late for really spectacular foliage color. Many leaves had already fallen to the ground. But we can imagine that it is really great here during Indian Summer.
