Day 1
Travel to Atascocita Houston
We like to fly with KLM via Amsterdam. You can get to many airports in the US and for us Amsterdam is a good airport to change planes in Europe.

Day 2
Today it rained all day, sometimes very hard. Therefore, there was only indoor program.

Day 3
Also today it rained practically the whole day - partly very hard. That's why we couldn't really see much. The Sixth Floor Museum was very interesting.

Day 5
Finally the sun comes out. Shortly before the hike, it has a mercy with us. The trail is beautiful, only it is extremely windy.

Great hike in beautiful weather. Cadillac Ranch is extremely busy at sunset.

Day 7
Today is a driving day, with two to three smaller stops. Early we are, in freezing cold, once again at the Cadillac Ranch. Fort Sumner is quite interesting nice to stretch our legs.

Day 8
The Devil's Hall Trail is beautiful, but not exactly easy on the knees. You have to climb a lot over high rocks and climb a rock staircase that is very slippery and high.

Day 9
The cave impresses us very much. It is huge and great. Apart from that, we have another long drive on the agenda today. Texas is huge.

Day 10
A beautiful day and finally some sun and warmth. The drive along the border, along the Rio Grande, through Big Bend Ranch SP, is a highlight.
Chisos Mountain Lodge, Big Bend NP/Texas ****

Day 11
Great hike. You should get there early because there is limited parking at the trailhead. March is high season in Big Bend NP. It is already warm, but not yet as hot as in summer.

Day 12
Very nice, relaxed day in Big Bend NP. In Santa Elena Canyon it is already cozy warm.

Day 13
Again a longer driving day. But half a day remains for the Big Bend NP. The drive to Del Rio is totally uneventful and boring. Therefore the two stops on the way are a welcome change.

Day 14
Fort Clark was quite nice, but you don't have to see it. It is inhabited and you have to search for the interesting buildings. But we really liked the Riverwalk in San Antonio, even if it is rather a total tourist attraction.

Day 15
The absolute highlight of the day was "The Saga", the projection of the history of San Antonio on the facade of the Cathedral of San Fernando.

Day 16
Totally nice day on the trail of the German emigrants in Texas. The day and the encounters were the highlight.

Day 17
All three places were fun. Strolling through Fredericksburg and the stores, listening to music in Luckenbach and hiking up Enchanted Rock. A beautiful day with good weather.

Day 18
Unfortunately, the weather was not really optimal. At Jacob`s Well you were not allowed to swim, that was great for photos. Quite different at Hamilton Pool. There we would only go back if swimming is prohibited. Especially if you consider the high entrance fee.

Day 19
In March, a huge music festival takes place in Austin. The South by Southwest (SXSW) is one of the biggest music festivals in the USA. That's why the whole city is fully booked and correspondingly expensive. So if you don't like to go, it's better to avoid the city, although it was also nice to walk around among the music people. Unfortunately, the Hope Outdoor Gallery no longer exists in its original location.

Day 20
Unfortunately, the weather was not really good again today. But it was no longer as humid as at the beginning of the vacation.

Day 21
Because the sun is shining, we go again to Eleanor Tinsley Park with a great view of downtown.
