Marquette

Description: Marquette is the most populous city in the UP and is not only home to Northern Michigan University, but is also one of the most important inland ports on Lake Superior. As a tourist, you will not only find the necessary infrastructure here, but also plenty of opportunities for leisure activities in beautiful natural surroundings.

Our rating: We really liked Marquette. The small town is well laid out and chilled. There are lots of great restaurants and breweries that invite you to linger. It is also a very good starting point for exploring the surrounding area. There is a lot to discover in and around the town.

Steel Bridge Pocket Park

Description: This bridge is a popular photo spot, especially in fall when the leaves turn into the most beautiful colors. On the north side of the bridge, there is parking available so you can explore the bridge on foot.

Our rating: Unfortunately, the fall colors in October 2024 weren't quite as spectacular as usual. Nevertheless, it was fun to explore the old bridge and the surrounding landscape. It's definitely worth a little detour.

Wright Street Falls

Description: Wright Street Falls are small waterfalls at the northwestern end of Marquette. They are easy to reach and require only a little effort to see. We parked right by the small bridge near the falls and walked down a short, somewhat steep, signposted trail to the river and the falls. The trail to see the falls is about 600feet long. From there, you can continue walking along the river.

Our rating: A nice little detour if you're in Marquette. Certainly not a must-see.
