Wolf Mountain
Description: The trailhead can be reached from US Highway 2. Follow Forest Road 9300 from Highway 2 for about 1.3mi north until you reach a turning loop. This road is unpaved but was in very good condition when we visited. Any car can drive on it. The trailhead is located at the end of the turning loop and is marked with a small brown sign.
The trail is short but quite steep. It starts at the end of Forest Road 9300 and leads uphill through tall sugar maple and oak forests. After about 0.3mi, you reach a viewpoint offering a sweeping view westward over the forest canopy. About 300feet further on, you come to a second viewpoint facing west.
Trail length: 0.3mi
Altitude difference: 253feet
Time needed: 0.5h
Difficulty level: moderate
Our rating: Wolf Mountain is one of the lesser-known viewpoints offering fantastic views of the colorful forest roofs, especially in autumn. The view was truly spectacular, but as the leaves were just beginning to change color, we can imagine that it gets even better.
