Downtown

Description: Minneapolis is the most populated city in Minnesota. Together with its sister city St. Paul, it forms the Twin Cities metropolitan region. A special feature of the city center are the so-called skyways, which connect most of the city's buildings and thus provide shelter for people in extremely cold winters and very warm summers. Thus, there are miles of walkways connecting stores, restaurants, offices, etc.

Our rating: Unfortunately, during our visit in June 2017, we only had time for a short drive through downtown. Therefore, we can not give a real evaluation here. However, our impression was positive. The city seemed pleasant and relaxed.

Stone Arch Bridge

Description: The 2100ft long Stone Arch Bridge offers a beautiful view of downtown Minneapolis. The former railroad bridge crosses the Mississippi River below St. Anthony Falls. Between 1880 and 1930, the city developed into one of the most important flour production cities in the country. For this reason, the Mill City Museum is located here on the banks of the Mississippi. Here you can learn everything interesting in connection with the mill history of Minneapolis.

Our rating: Unfortunately, we had very bad weather during our time in Minneapolis. Here at the Stone Arch Bridge, however, the sun came out from time to time and so we could really enjoy the view of downtown and the Mississippi River. We liked it here very much.

Lower Trail

Description: From Father Hannepin Bluff Park you can get a nice view of the Stone Arch Bridge from the Lower Trail. It's also a great place to park your car if you want to look at the bridge. The trail is short, well maintained and leads down to the Mississippi River.

Our rating: We really liked the short trail because it gave us some nice views of the bridge. If you're out here anyway, you shouldn't miss it, because the trail is short and very easy to walk.

From here you also have a very nice view of the Basilica of Saint Mary

Sculpture Garden

Description: Another highlight of the city is right next to the Walker Art Center. The Sculpture Garden. It was rebuilt in 2017 and reopened just in time for our visit, in June 2017. The park is beautifully located and also offers nice views of downtown Minneapolis. Admission is free.

Our rating: Actually, I wanted to come here mainly because of the sculpture Spoonbridge and Cherry . The huge cherry in the spoon I found just great and wanted to see it very much live once. In the end, we found not only this sculpture very worth seeing, but also the many other works of art that are distributed throughout the park. If you can spare 1-2 hours in Minneapolis, you should definitely stop by here.

Mall of America

Description: Minneapolis is also home to the Mall of America, one of the largest shopping centers in the country. No wish is left unfulfilled here. There is not only everything the shopping heart desires, but with Nicelodeon Universe a huge play park in the middle of the mall. Furthermore, you will find a roller coaster, a cinema complex and an aquarium.

For the GPS: 60 E Broadway, Bloomington, MN 55425

At the official webpage of the mall you will find everything you need to know for a visit.

Our rating: The Mall of America is just gigantomaniacally huge. There are so many stores, restaurants and other things to do that we were honestly a little overwhelmed. If you come here to stroll, you should definitely plan a lot of time, because there is so much to see and discover. Therefore, we recommend planning at least half a day to get at least a small overview. For Shoppaholics certainly a must see.
