Harley Davidson

Description: The Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee celebrates over 100 years of the cult motorcycle. Starting with the first motorcycle up to the current models, everything the motorcycle fan's heart desires is exhibited here. In very nice and interesting exhibitions you can learn a lot about the brand Harley Davidson. Exciting are also the many motorcycles that tell a special story, such as the one that was floated 4000mi from Japan through the Pacific Ocean to the coast of British Columbia and survived. Even for non-Harley fans there is a lot to discover.

Our rating: We visited the museum in June 2017. As a motorcycle fan, for Gerd this was a must see, even if he is not a special Harley fan. We enjoyed the visit here very much, because just as often in the U.S., this museum is also very interesting and informative designed. We can highly recommend a visit.

Miller Brewery

Description: Miller Brewery is the second largest brewery in the USA. In 1855, German-born Frederick Miller bought a small brewery in Milwaukee and named it Milwaukee Brewery. In 1833, for example, Miller introduced automatic bottling and pasteurization of the beer. The brewery can be visited. The tour lasts 80 minutes. For all participants of age, the price includes a beer tasting. During the tour you can visit the warehouses, bottling, cellars and brewing kettles.

Our rating: In our family, Gerd is the beer drinker and as a Franconian he is also quite spoiled as far as good beer is concerned. So it is not so easy for him to get enjoyable beer in the U.S. Since Miller is the brand that he finds tolerable for himself and because we were nearby, we paid a visit to the brewery. The tour was quite interesting and those who are interested in brewing beer will certainly have fun here. Afterwards we could also try one or the other beer. We had fun here.

Art Museum

Description: Opened in 2001, the new Art Museum was designed by Santiago Calatrava. It is home to several private collections, mainly of modern art. The special feature of the building are the wings which can be opened and closed. Whenever the museum is open, the wings are also open. The time of the opening procedure is announced daily on the museum's website.

Our rating: When we were in Milwaukee in June 2017, we unfortunately had no time for a detailed visit to the museum. But since some pictures of my favorite painter Georgia O'Keeffe are hanging here, this visit will certainly be done at some point. But also the futuristic building is worth a visit. Since it is located right between Lake Michigan and downtown Milwaukee, it offers beautiful views of both the lake and the city's skyscrapers.
