Munising

Description: Munising is a small town on the southern shore of Lake Superior. It mainly serves as a starting point for visits to Picured Rock National Lakeshore. The town itself is a typical American village.

Our rating: Munising doesn't have that much to offer, but it is a good starting point for exploring the surrounding area. The surrounding nature in particular offers some great highlights.

Front Range Lighthouse

Scott Fall

Description: Scott Fall is an approximately 10feet high waterfall that falls over a rocky cliff directly into a small pool. As it is right next to the road, it is also very easy to reach. You can park directly in front of it on the roadside.

Our rating: Unfortunately, there wasn't much water in the waterfall in October 2024, so it wasn't really very spectacular. Nevertheless, it is a nice little stop to stretch your legs.

Foggy´s Steakhouse

East 7876 West M 28 Highway. Christmas, MI 49862
HOMEPAGE

Description: Foggy's Steakhouse and Lounge was established in 1982 by Floyd “Foggy” StAmour. Since its opening, Foggy's has offered a wide range of food, drinks and entertainment. The covered charcoal grill and first-class steak selection are definitely a reason to stop by. Foggy's specializes in quality steaks, but the menu offers many more choices, including fresh Lake Superior fish, burgers, and seafood.

4/5

Our rating: We visited the restaurant in October 2024. The review is a little difficult because it's somewhat divided. The most important thing is that the food tasted really good. The quality of the meat was great and the preparation in the middle of the room is something special. What we didn't like so much was the presentation and the restaurant itself. It consists of a huge room with tables. There are no tablecloths but only paper mats and cutlery wrapped in paper napkins. Drinks are served in plastic cups. The same goes for the toppings for the potatoes. The whole place had a bit of the ambience of a fast food restaurant. For a place that puts so much effort into the quality of the food, we just thought it was unfortunate that the surroundings were so poor.

Muldoons Pasties

1246 M-28 West, Munising, MI 49862
HOMEPAGE

Description: Around 1864, Finnish immigrants arrived along with miners from Cornwall to find work in “Copper Country” in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Pasties were the perfect, long-lasting meal for the miners. Their wives could use the vegetables and meat from the leftovers and wrap them in a crust of bread. In the morning, freshly prepared, they would go into the miners' pockets so that they were still warm at lunchtime. The pies became known as a “one-handed meal”. The miners could hold on to the pasty with one hand with their dirty hands and eat their way through it, leaving only a small crust. To this day, pasties are a staple and a tradition for many families in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Our rating:  We visited the restaurant in October 2024.

Many travel portals recommend Muldoons as the pastie restaurant of choice. So of course we had to try it out. Even though we liked the pasties here, we preferred the ones from Letho's. But as always, taste is completely subjective and everyone should form their own opinion. Here, too, we liked the gravy better than ketchup.

Rustic Grounds Coffee Co

319 E Superior St, Munising, MI 49862
HOMEPAGE

Our rating: Our rating:  The Rustic Grounds Coffee Co is one example of the many small coffee houses that can now be found all over the USA. Most of them are not part of a chain and offer delicious, freshly brewed coffee.
