Leland
Lower Peninsula - Michigan
Leland
Description: Located along the Leland River, which feeds into Lake Michigan, Leland's Historic Fishtown is one of the last active and thriving fishing towns on the Great Lakes. Native Americans first lived and fished at this site until European settlers arrived in the 1850s and established what is now a fishing village. Today, the small historic town primarily lives from tourism.
Our rating: Leland was a nice little stop on our drive along Scenic Road M-22. The pretty, historic wooden houses along the mouth of the Leland River are well worth seeing. But there is one thing you should be aware of. You probably won't have this place to yourself. There's a lot going on here, even in October.
