Der Historic SP bewahrt den restaurierten milit\u00e4rischen Au\u00dfenposten Fort Wilkins. 1844 wurde Fort Wilkins auf Anweisung des Kriegsministers William Wilkins errichtet. Die dort stationierten Truppen sollten bei der \u00f6rtlichen Strafverfolgung helfen und den Frieden zwischen den Bergleuten und den \u00f6rtlichen Ojibwas wahren. Das Fort erwies sich jedoch als unn\u00f6tig, da es keine Konflikte zwischen den Bergleuten und den Ojibwas gab. Nach dem Amerikanischen B\u00fcrgerkrieg wurde das Fort nochmal kurzfristig reaktiviert. Ende August 1870 gab die Armee die Einrichtung endg\u00fcltig auf.
